What was once ready at every corner because more people grew their own food, today we have to go to great lengths to seek out natural healthy produce and prepare them in our kitchens. So, the last thing you want to worry about is the cleaning chemical you used to wash the cutting board. You want to focus on feeding your family good healthy food with any harsh chemicals.

Did you know that use your traditional chemical based cleaner or air freshener can cause a 50% increase in developing asthma! This was found in a European Study on glass, furniture cleaners and air fresheners. Cleanliness in our homes is a valid concern and the use of chemical based cleaners is a growning concern. So what can you do about it? Here are some practical suggestions for cleaning around the home.

1 Use Easy All Natural Cleaners

Creating your own citrus vinegar cleaner is easy to do. All you have to do is place some orange peels or lemon peels in a glass jar, cover them in white vinegar and let the jar sit for two weeks. After that, remove the peels and dilute the vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio. Pour the solution in a spray bottle that you buy at Home Depot. Now you have a super safe organic based cleaner that acutally works well and is safe for your family and pets.

Another organic cleaner is use white vinegar and water alone. Dilute the white vinegar in a 1:1 ratio with water and put in a spray bottle. This is one cleaning solution that works great for cleaning the bathroom, kitchen and any table tops around the house and won't leave a hard chemical residue.

2 Sanitize Your Cutting Board

Your cutting board is a breeding ground for all types of germs! Raw chicken, fish and red meat is cut on the same board as raw veggies and fruit. Do you just rinse the cutting board with water or do you wash it wish dish soap. Again, cleaning with a harsh chemical based cleaner will leave behind a residue that will seep into the raw food that you cut on your cutting board.

An easy way to clean and sanitize your cutting board is to sprinkle some coarse salt on your cutting board, then cut a lemon in half, squeeze a little bit of juice on the board and then use the rest to scrub the cutting board surface for a few minutes. This will scrape away any dirt, built up residue and kill all the germs in the pours. Risnse with hot water and dry with a clean cloth. Now you are good to go!

3 Unclog That Drain

When your drain gets clogged, don't break out the drano! The chemicals in most drain cleaners are extremely corosive and harsh. If you have some baking soda and vinegar in your house, you can unclog your drain no problem. First flush your drain with boiling hot water, then add half a cup of baking soda to the drain. After that pur in a cup of vinegar and a cup of hot water and watch the bubbles work their magic. After you have let it sit for 3-5 minutes, pour some hot tap water down the drain and you should be done. Congrats, your drain is now unclogged.

4 Smelly Carpets

Freebreeze is one of the chemicals that many people go to spray on furniture and carpets today. The problem with that is the chemical BHT which is a neurotaxin and lung and skin irritator. Aside from all the other chemicals that are present too that are know to cause cancer and many other ailements, Freebreeze is bad stuff. Here's how to make your carpets smell great again without chemicals.

Combine 2 cups of baking soda with 10 to 20 of your choice of essential oils. The baking soda will help lift any stains and deodorize your carpets. The essential oils will discinfect and leave your room smelling great. One of our favorite essential oils is lavender, it reminds us of spring time and leaves our home smelling wonderful.
